Side effects

Just as with any medical procedure, there are possible side effects during and after treatment. TPI is a generally well-tolerated procedure but some individuals may experience:

  • Soreness at the area of needle insertion
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding/hematoma
  • Fatigue

Rare side effects can include:

  • Skin infection
  • Injury to underlying tissues (such as nerves and blood vessels)
  • Temporary flare-up of pain
  • Fainting
  • Reaction to the local anaesthetic
  • Extremely rarely pneumothorax (puncturing of the lung)

Every care is taken to minimise risks of the procedure through safe medical practices and established protocols for managing complications.
