Side effects
Just as with any medical procedure, there are possible side effects during and after treatment. TPI is a generally well-tolerated procedure but some individuals may experience:
- Soreness at the area of needle insertion
- Bruising
- Bleeding/hematoma
- Fatigue
Rare side effects can include:
- Skin infection
- Injury to underlying tissues (such as nerves and blood vessels)
- Temporary flare-up of pain
- Fainting
- Reaction to the local anaesthetic
- Extremely rarely pneumothorax (puncturing of the lung)
